Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, University of Ilorin New Vice Chancellor Pays Courtesy Visit to Energy Commission of Nigeria Headquarters in Abuja

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director General and Management of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday 3rd November, 2022.

While welcoming the Vice Chancellor to the Commission, the Director, Media & Public Affairs, Barr Abdulazeez Elamah informed the visitor that the ECN is the only federal government agency in Nigeria charged with the responsibility for the strategic planning and coordination of national policies in the field of energy in all its ramifications. He also emphasized the vision and mission of the Commission which culminated in the drive to establish the National Center for Hydropower Research and Development at the University of Ilorin and other energy research centers in all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria. He informed the Vice Chancellor that, as a welcoming organization, the Director General and his team are open to contribution from the University geared towards the development of energy in the country and on behalf of the management and staff congratulated him on the new appointment.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole appreciated the Commission for the reception accorded him despite the short notice and commended the amazing job the ECN is doing both on their campus and about solving the challenges of the larger society. He specifically appreciated the design of the energy centers programed to take care of each geo-political zone in the country. In his words “I sincerely commend the Commission for this effort, and I pray you continue to thrive on that lane”. He recalled participating as the Dean, Faculty of Law in the preparation of the operational manual of the energy Centers and particularly pleased with the development so far. He noted that the Centre’s administrative block in the University is almost completed as well as the workshop building and elicited the support of the Director General to ensure that the buildings are all completed to make research work less challenging. He reiterated that ECN organizes a lot of intervention projects across the country and pleaded on behalf of the University to be included in the 2023 and future appropriations if the need arises. He once again appreciated the hospitality and assured the management of “retaliation”.

The Director General, Prof. Eli Jidere Bala in his response applauded the Vice Chancellor and the Director of the National Centre for Hydropower Research and Development, Prof. A.W. Salami who accompanied him for the courtesy visit and congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his new appointment. According to the DG, “My Director, Media and Public Affairs has said it all. I want to assure you that the Commission will continue to work harmoniously with you and your management for the advancement of the research activities for hydropower development in the country. I want to thank the entire University for the cooperation and support it has accorded us in the process of getting the new building to the stage it is presently”. The Director General noted that the University of Ilorin is the first and only University that has issued the Commission with a Letter of Allocation of the piece of land housing the Energy center in the respective institutions where our centers are domiciled. He considered this to be a great stride in the relationship between the host universities and the Commission. He promised to visit the Center very soon.
