Welcome to Energy Commission of Nigeria

The Energy Commission of Nigeria came to being through the enabling Act No. 62 of 1979, as amended by Act No. 32 of 1988 and Act No. 19 of 1989 (see ECN Act.)

The Commission commenced operation in 1989 after the meeting of the Heads of ECOWAS on 29th May 1982 in Cotonou, where a decision was taken that each member state should establish by law,a body within the machinery of government, to be charged with the responsibility for coordinating and supervising all energy functions and activities within each Member State and may be called ENERGY COMMISSION of each Member State (see for Official Journal of ECOWAS, Protocols, Decisions & Directives, Vol. 4, June 1982, pg 50).

Addendum: Postponement of Technical Bid Opening for Categories “A” (Works) and “B” (Goods)

The Energy Commission of Nigeria wishes to inform prospective bidders and the general public that the Technical Bid Opening for Category A (Works) and Category B (Goods) of its 2023 Capital and Zonal Intervention Projects earlier scheduled for Tuesday, August 08, 2023 at 10am has been postponed to Tuesday, August 15, 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances.

In view of the above, the new deadline for bid submission for Category A (Works) and Category B (Goods) will now be on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 by 10am and the technical bid opening for the said Categories (“A” and “B”) will hold immediately at the Commission’s premises, Plot 701c Central Business District, Abuja.

The Commission regrets any inconvenience the shift in date may have caused you.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) is the Government organ with the statutory mandate for the Strategic planning and Co-ordination of National Policies in the field of Energy in all its ramifications to ensure adequate, reliable, cost-effective and sustainable energy supply for nation’s economic and socio-political development. In compliance with the Public Procurement Act 2007, the Commission wishes to undertake the procurement of Works, Goods and Services under the 2023 capital projects.
